What is Sculptra^®?
Sculptra is a safe, synthetic injectable material that provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness. Sculptra is used for the correction of fine lines, wrinkles, furrows and creases. Sculptra is injectable Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), a synthetic substance that is biocompatible, biodegradable and has been safely used in orthopedics since the mid-nineties and has been used in Europe since 1999 for cosmetic correction of scars and wrinkles. Sculptra is an immunologically inert (does not trigger inflammatory reactions) synthetic polymer belonging to the category of biomaterials termed "resorbable". Sculptra is completely eliminated from the body in the form of carbon dioxide. Sculptra has been used in approximately 150,000 patients in more than thirty countries and was recently FDA approved for the treatment of facial fat loss in patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

How does Sculptra^® work?
Sculptra works by providing a framework for your body to produce and lay down collagen, which fills in the desired area. With Sculptra, tiny particles of PLLA are diluted in a suspension of sterile water, carefully injected into the skin, and then molded for optimal results. The particles of PLLA stimulate the formation of new collagen in the skin, adding volume over time. Sculptra is an injectable volumizing treatment that stimulates the build up of the body’s own collagen to smooth out lines and wrinkles and restore lost facial volume to give you a fuller, younger-looking face. Sculptra is most often associated with the cosmetic fillers, but is actually a volume increaser. Sculptra is a collagen regeneration product that, unlike traditional fillers (Restylane, Radiesse and collagen), works by stimulating your skins own fibroblasts to produce new collagen. As its name implies, a series of treatments with Sculptra will fill in and re-contour areas where underlying supportive collagen and fat tissue have diminished with age, or have been damaged via injury or disease.

What are the benefits of Sculptra^®?
Sculptra is used for restoring volume and improving facial contours. Sculptra produces a more youthful, pleasing facial contour in people with facial aging, wrinkling and loss of facial fat. Sculptra smoothes loose, wrinkled and/or depressed skin. Sculptra can be used to restore the youthful fullness of our temples, cheeks, lips, chin, eye areas and hands, that is lost with the passage of time. Sculptra can also be used in the back of hands to decrease the effects of aging, the upper chest for deep lines and areas of depressions that may occur after liposuction. Sculptra can be used in place of fat grafting (FAMI) to revitalize the face. In many situations Sculptra is an even better option than fat transfer for those patients looking to turn back the clock. The effect of Sculptra cosmetic treatment is gradual and exceptionally natural looking.

How Many Sculptra^® treatments will I need?
Sculptra may require a series of three to five treatments, every four to six weeks.

How soon will results appear?
New collagen production appears slowly and gradually over a period of two to six months, for a natural, healthy and fuller look. This is an advantage for those people wishing to avoid the obvious tell-tale overnight change in appearance of cosmetic surgery.

How long do the results last?
Sculptra's benefit is long lasting and achieved through a simple series of injections into the deeper layers of the skin, with each treatment taking less than 30 minutes. Sculptra's collagen stimulation is long term and may last for 2 years before a touch up is needed.

Are there any possible side effects?
Sculptra side effects are generally injection-related symptoms at the site of injection, such as:
• Redness
• Swelling
• Bruising
• Tenderness or pain
• Bleeding
These effects, if they occur, usually last between two and six days.

How painful are the treatments?
Other than the initial "needle poke" sensation, the treatment is quite comfortable and free of burning or stinging.

Will there be any downtime?
There is no downtime with Sculptra treatments. Most people return to work or normal activities immediately.
